Subject: IN DEFENSE OF OLD BOOKS LIKE THIS
Subject: IN DEFENSE OF OLD BOOKS LIKE THIS
While I have not read the book, in respect of books like this, written in or about the Victorian era, I find them an enjoyable read. The language is beautiful, lucid and quite often moving. I have become a big fan of them, and I have various authors that I like. From what I have seen of this book it appears to be highly readible and accurate.
I wish to express my appreciation to the Internet Archive for this service. I think that if Ray Bradbury (author of Fahrenheit 451) were alive today he would be fully on board, because he had an abiding respect for books and he probably had premonitions of a future where certain books were proscribed because they do not fit the message the government wants to broadcast.
Delving into books like this a person can obtain a fresh insight. If what is confirmed is that which is held to be true, all well and good. But if some things do not gibe, well, then, maybe you need to reconsider a few things.
As for the author being anti-anything, I cannot address that; but all authors, or scholars, are susceptible to societal influenced at the time; and this to can be an object for study. I have noticed little biases before; but they are not limited to authors or scholars from the past.
I found out about this book reading "A History of the Church of Christ" by Williston Walker, published 1970, copywriten 1918. Page 462 there is a reference to this book and author.
Incidentally, Joseph Milner was the older brother, and sponsor, when he was just getting started in life, of Isaac Milner, who would later go on to write a book in the 1800s about the horrors of slavery; and this book would be partially responsible for inspiring William Wilberforce, a member of Parliament, to oppose, and eventually help abolish, slavery from Great Britain and all her empire.

You can't tell this author didn't like Christians. Seemed everytime he mentioned them he had to throw in a slight jab so that it was subtle to not cause one to be upset but at the same time make you feel bad too. He's a fake Christian and gotta be J3wish. Typical anti white anti Jesus crypto Jew.
